TEACHER & CHOREOGRAPHER

I TEACH...
My teaching philosophy is based on the premise that everybody can dance. Every human being is beautiful and worthy of respect and value and, therefore, deserves the opportunity to experience and enjoy dance and its healing and enhancing opportunities. I teach dance as a way of expression and liberation, where every person showing interest, motivation, and respect, is welcome to share their stories, points of view, and passions. I am a huge believer in the power of dance to change lives which leads my teaching to emerge from a place of self-love.
I value technique, encouraging rigor, discipline, and hard work, but with constant attention to students’ safety, mental health, and self-respect. I work to create spaces that promote a healthy vision of dance where students can exploit their maximum potential and qualities with safety. My main goal as a teacher is to create healthy spaces for the new generations of dancers, where aspects such as body image or self-esteem should not be barriers to participating in this artistic experience.

I CREATE...
As a choreographer, my starting point for creation is the notion of my body as a container and the result of many experiences lived as a Latin American woman. I constantly try to honor those experiences residing in me through movement and invite collaborative work where every dancer contributes to the concepts worked from their own personal narratives. Owner of a no typical body for classical cannons, but highly trained in them, I create to defy the structures from within and make spaces for new voices and waves of thoughts that bring dance to a more welcoming level. I create highly physical, tactile, and intricate movements based on Contemporary dance language, with a clear lean on classical Modern technique, to represent the complexities of human relationships. I craft dance that feels authentic and has meaning. I try to consistently bring voices together to share stories and explore issues that surround us as a society, an ideal that shapes collaborative creative processes between the members of the cast.
I believe in the power of collaboration and interdisciplinarity to enhance the meaning of movement. A main objective as a creator is to build community and foster safe spaces for exploration where artists can take risks knowing they have a supportive environment holding their backs.
