Born and raised in Santiago, Chile, Andi Salazar is a Dancer, Choreographer, Dance Educator, and Sociologist. She began dancing at the age of 4 years and started her professional training at the age of 8 at the Professional Institute School of Modern Music where she was trained in Ballet, Modern, Contemporary, and Jazz for 10 years.
She got her BA degree in Sociology at the Catholic University of Chile, the same place where she founded Kazé Dance Company, a Contemporary dance company where she was the Artistic Director and Choreographer for eight years. With Kazé, Andi premiered original full-length works as well as several short pieces, winning local and international awards. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Chile, Kazé also developed and operated dance workshops for primary school students in vulnerable schools, inspired by the idea of sharing arts with people that do not have access to them.
In 2017, Andi relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, California, and obtained her MFA in Dance and Choreography from Mills College. There, she also had the opportunity to perform with Emergence Dance Company, and for choreographers such as Joe Landini and Dancers, Kara Davis, Molissa Fenley, Victor Talledos, among others. She showed her work along with her Contemporary Dance Collective “A Pulso Dance Project" in different festivals and showcases in the area like Push Festival, Spector Dance, Works in the Works, HH11 Dance Festival, and SAFEhouse Arts SF. She also recently held two Full night-length shows at Joe Goode Annex, “Hidden Spaces” in 2021 and “Vitales” in 2022, the same year in which she was selected as one of the ODC Pilot Project choreographers in its 73rd version of the program.
Beyond her choreographic work, during her years in the Bay Andi worked as a faculty member at the Bay Area Ballet Conservatory, Shawl Anderson Dance Center, Museum of Dance and as a Teaching Artist for the Community programs at Alonzo King Lines Ballet Dance Center.
Andi is also an ABT Certified teacher in Pre Primary through level 3 of the ABT National Training Curriculum. In 2023, she relocated to New York to keep her studies and joined the Master’s degree “Teaching Dance in the Profession: ABT Ballet Pedagogy” at New York University.
